After his retirement from the University of California, he accepted a job at a new Technological School in Japan. This experience helped us to decide where we would live permanently, in Japan or in California. After three years, we were happy to be back at home in Berkeley. Finally he was free from any official duty but he was bored. A request to become an adviser to the Laboratory of Mikuni Company came at the right time. It offered him an ideal situation - working in Berkeley but with connections to Japan and working with young people. Also he was right on the wave of the Computer Age. He became a computer bug, an avid Mac. Bug. He thoroughly enjoyed working on it, accessing Web sites. His last two years were very hard, fighting with cancer. But he never gave up and he faced his death squarely. It was a remarkable end for a remarkable man. |
