It was a very hard, mixed year for Yasundo. He was diagnosed with a terminal disease but also learned he would receive awards! Early in June, just before his eighty-second birthday, he was diagnosed with colon cancer which had spread to his liver. He underwent Laparoscopic surgery. Then he was notified that he had received a special award. A month later we traveled to Tokyo to receive "Koseki Sho", a lifetime achievement award from the Society of Instrument and Control. |

July 27, Yasundo is receiving "Koseki Sho" from President Toshiyuki Kitamori. He also gave a lecture. |

A few days later, there was a conference of the International Federation of Automatic Control in Tokyo to which many of Yasundo's friends came from the States, France and Mexico. Yasundo was feted at the banquet where Prof. Rabins from Texas and Prof. Perret from Grenoble, France, paid tributes to him. |

After returning from Tokyo, Yasundo's chemotherapy started. He had a very nice doctor. Dr. David Irwin genuinely cared for Yasundo. He explained things to him and adjusted the therapy schedule so Yasundo could travel, even going to Japan between treatments. |
