Coming home to Berkeley, Yasundo was asked to be an advisor at Mikuni Company's Laboratory in Berkeley. There he helped to train young engineers. And it became a pattern to go to Japan twice a year, spring and fall. He was treated well by President Masanori Ikuta and the staffs like Shuichi Kamiyama and Kenshi Shimizu. This employment lasted until 1996. Well into early August, he continued going to the laboratory part time. He enjoyed working with the young people like Koji Ezumi and Takashi Miyano.

One huge misfortune in our lives was the demise of our daughter Yuri Canfield. She developed stomach cancer and had surgery in 1986. She seemed to be doing well for a time, but passed away on November 30, 1987 in Seattle, leaving her husband Jim Canfield and eight-year old Maya.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Our golden anniversary celebration was sponsored by our good friends. On June 22, 1989. about eighty friends came to celebrate. Here we are with nine-year old Maya just before leaving the house.

Looking back, it is amazing that we kept traveling whenever we could in the 1990s. We went to Mexico three times in '90, '93 and '94. To Europe in '92 traveling from Italy to Southern France. To Canada in '93. When my niece Mari's family moved to Los Angeles, we traveled together and visited each other.
