Around the World in 1965

During Yasundo's first sabbatical semester, we made our first around-the-world trip. We started in Mexico and then proceeded to Great Britain, Germany and France. Yasundo was excited about meeting the famous scholars with whom he had corresponded. He had been asked by Professor Rene Perret to teach a course at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in France. Yasundo accepted and lectured there three times a week for five weeks. On weekends, we made short sightseeing trips nearby.

After Yasundo's Grenoble lectures, we set off to visit Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Thailand, Hong Kong and finally, on May 5, 93 days after we had left Berkeley, we arrived in Tokyo where we were welcomed by my sister Yasuda's family.

Professor and Mrs. A. J. Young

On our trip we visited Professor and Mrs. A. J. Young. He was the first person to call attention to Yasundo's paper on Control.

Professor Winifried Oppelt and Mr. Moringa

In Darmstadt, Germany, Yasundo is shown with Professor Winifried Oppelt and Mr. Moringa. It was Professor Oppelt who gave Yasundo his initial direction on the study of automatic control. Yasundo had translated two of Oppelt's books into Japanese.
