1963: We Move to York Avenue, Our Last House

In January 1963, we moved to 135 York Avenue, Kensington. This was our last house and we lived there for 35 years. The house was built in 1960 when Japanese architecture was in fashion. It has a strong Japanese feeling with wooden walls, a white ceiling, and a small Japanese garden. We loved it and Yasundo worked hard to improve it. He made all the custom-size shoji screens throughout the house.

Visit of Mrs. Sofu Teshigahara and Miss Kasumi Teshigahara

In March 1963, Mrs. Sofu Teshigahara (front right), and Miss Kasumi Teshigahara (front center) visited our home along with other Sogetsu teachers and friends.

Yasundo's academic life now settled into a busy teaching and research schedule. In February 1964, his notes reveal that his graduate class looked more like an undergraduate class with 25 students. At this time he began writing his book Control. The book took him several years to complete and it was published in 1968. Mike Ravins and Dave Auslander were his coauthors. He also became active with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), writing papers and attending meetings of the Society.
