1945-46

Under the military dictatorship, Japan was heading for the worst time. But the arrival of our daughter Yuri, born in Nagoya on March 18, 1944, made us very happy. In the same year Yasundo was appointed to the newly established Second Faculty of Engineering Department at Tokyo University. During the next four years we moved often: first to my brother's house in Tokyo, then to a rented house in Chiba, then we evacuated to Gotemba just before the end of the war, and finally we moved into a small house we built in Chiba.

April, 1945. A family photo taken at the rented house in Chiba. Yuri was one year old.

1946 was an important year for Yasundo. Major events were:

April 30:
October:

Yasundo was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering
He was promoted to a full professorship.
He began his lectures on automatic control.

Yasundo was busy at the University and commuted to Gotemba every weekend, returning home with a bag of food for us. This continued until October when we moved into our half-finished house. This was our first house, built on a patch of land adjacent to a pine forest in Chiba where the Second Engineering Department was located. In the garden, Yasundo grew vegetables and flowers.
