Members and their guests visited the elegant Hayward Japanese Gardens and enjoyed a walk and talk with Mr. Kimio Kimura, designer of these beautiful and serene Gardens. He discussed universal applications of design for creating artful gardens. The award-winning Hayward Japanese Gardens feature various structures, ponds and stones which capture the illusion of space, simplicity and tranquility in harmony with the environment. Mr. Kimura has an M.A. in Landscape Architecture and also has studied Japanese architecture, brush painting, wooden sculpture and ikebana. He has designed many other major projects in the Bay Area such as gardens at the Miyako Hotel, the Blackhawk Shopping Center in Danville, and gardens for filmmaker George Lucas' residence in Marin County.
