AUTUMN SPLENDOR
Yoshiko Hogetsu Williams, Sogetsu School

Yoshiko Hogetsu Williams, Sogetsu SchoolAs a child in Japan, Yoshiko Williams picked up a magazine and saw pictures of ikebana flower arrangements by various artists. One arrangement immediately captured her interest. It was by Sofu Teshigahara, founder of the Sogetsu School. This led Ms. Williams to a lifelong study of Sogetsu ikebana, and to years of teaching it. After moving to the United States, she met Soho Sakai, an eminent Sogetsu teacher in the Bay Area, and became her student.

In 1990 Ms. Williams became an instructor and holds the school's rank of Komon. She has taught ikebana at the Portland Community College in Oregon, and currently teaches at College of San Mateo and the San Mateo Garden Center. Her work has been demonstrated at the Bay Area Arrangers Guild, Camellia Society, the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California, and many other organizations and workshops throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She designs for the Filoli Flower Show and Bouquets to Art in San Francisco. As a volunteer, she often does flower design as a volunteer at museums across San Francisco. Ms. Williams is a member of Ikebana International and the American Institute of Flower Designers (AIFD).
