The Exquisite World of Ikenobo was brought to vivid realization when Mme. Suiun Matano demonstrated in November. Mme. Matano began her study of Ikenobo Ikebana at age 13 in Japan where she was educated. She started teaching locally and became a member of the board of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Northern California in 1964. She served as the Society's First Vice President for 10 years and filled various posts in the cabinet as well as serving as Chair of the Examiner's Committee. Mme. Mme. Matano has demonstrated and exhibited at the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival, the Ikebana Teachers Federation, Ikebana International, and at various church and garden club events. Currently she teaches in Monterey, Salinas and Watsonville. Her outstanding work has earned her the "Korosho" award from Ikenobo Headmaster Senei Ikenobo. |
