Shuko Kobayashi,
distinguished San Francisco Bay Area master Ikebana teacher and designer,
created the design plan and supervised construction of the set for Ikebana -
Forever New, a mammoth springtime exhibition of Ikebana, the art of
Japanese floral arrangement. The show was held the weekend of March 21-22, 1998
at the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park. This biennial
show, the Bay Area's largest, delighted thousands of residents and visitors,
presenting the best of Ikebana from many different schools. Outstanding artists
demonstrated the art of creating Ikebana on stage and more than 100 fresh
arrangements revealed Ikebana's traditional and contemporary allure.
Carole Gray, past president of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter
of Ikebana International, coordinated plans for Ikebana - Forever New,
the 22nd Ikebana Flower Show of this popular art. The show included an
exhibition with dozens of arrangements ranging in style from the most
traditional and classic to cutting-edge, contemporary visions of Ikebana.
Master teachers from various schools of Ikebana demonstrated on stage how
arrangements are created, and many decorative floral items were on sale during
the show.
