A team of teachers illuminated the elegant, curving styles of Enshu ikebana this month. Master teacher Sakae Sakaki has studied ikebana since childhood, first intrigued by an older sister who was learning the art. She studied with the late Mme. Haruko Obata in Berkeley as well as in Japan with the renowned Headmaster Isshin Mori. She teaches students in San Francisco, Berkeley and El Cerrito and her work has been seen in San Francisco's Cherry Blossom Festival, at Ikebana International, by the Sacramento and Monterey I.I. chapters, and many other organizations. She is a past president of the Ikebana Teachers Federation. Arriving in San Francisco from Japan when she was eight, Rayko Kurosaki has been captivated by plants and flowers and a love of the more traditional forms of ikebana, such as Enshu School. For many years she has studied with Mme. Sakaki and holds an Enshu School teaching certificate. |
