TREASURES OF MONTEREY BAY

Kuwako Biho Takahashi, Sogetsu SchoolTwo "treasures" present the beauty of two schools when Carol Marchette (left) and Joanne Nishi (right) come to the chapter from the Monterey Bay Chapter.

Ms. Marchette is an accomplished Sogetsu teacher and also studies Ikenobo Ikebana. Having lived in many places worldwide where her husband was working, Carol began studying Sogetsu in Singapore. After his retirement they settled in Pebble Beach. There she is an active participant in the Monterey Bay Chapter and an associate member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. She is co-chair of the North American Regional Conference to be held in Monterey in May, 2008.

Joanne Nishi, born in Los Angeles but a long time resident of Monterey, holds Ohara School's 1st Degree Masters certificate. She began Ohara studies with Mrs. Hobi Hayashi in 1953 and continued until Mrs. Hayashi's death in 1985. Joanne is a past president of the Monterey Bay Ohara Chapter and teaches in Monterey and Salinas. She often demonstrates and exhibits for Ikebana International.
