Versatile Bamboo

Mr. Shuko Kobayashi, a Sogetsu School senior teacher and expert in bamboo constructions, was ill during April. Therefore, some of his students and admirers presented in his honor a fascinating program using a popular ikebana material -- bamboo. Mr. Kobayashi is well known throughout the Bay Area and other venues as a multi-talented teacher of ikebana, painter, sculptor, designer, lecturer and essayist. He trained with and assisted Sogetsu's founder, Sofu Teshigahara, before moving to the USA four decades ago. He has designed numerous large ikebana exhibitions and has frequently exhibited in one-man and group shows throughout California. His program reveals the beauty of bamboo in its many aspects.
